Friday 13th June - Day 7

Published on 13 June 2025 at 18:00

With just one more day to go we found our way onto a very pleasant path!  After leaving Wellington we headed into Taunton, and just behind the Country Ground is the start of the Southern leg of the Somerset Space Walk, a 14 mile walk along the tow-path of the Bridgwater to Taunton canal, with proportionally sized and distanced representations of the planets in our Solar System!  We started at Pluto...

After a long walk, we encountered Neptune...

Then we found Uranus...

All of these included long gaps in between and it was another long gap to Saturn...

After Saturn they all came in, in very quick succession which really brought home just how close the inner six planets are together!

Sadly the final plinth which was Mercury had lost both its Planet and its inscription, either to time or vandalism.

Anyway, onto the Sun!

It was just impressive in its size, and allowed us to understand the sizes of our universe!  After this photo was taken we were joined by Dan, and U11 Juniors Girls Parent, and he walked with us from the Sun to the Bridgwater Pluto on the Northern part of the Spacewalk

After this it was the slow amble up to W-S-M
